Theft of my 2013 990 SMT

Post by bigred » Fri May 07, 2021 11:07 pm

Some bastard stole my beloved 2013 KTM 990 SMT last night, from my home in Brunswick, Melbourne, Australia.
Black orange colour scheme, 28,000 kms, heated grips, Leo Vince pipes, ITG foam filter, orange top box, orange shorty levers, pitting on the front guard, gel seat, LED light, crash bars and bobbins, 1L9HN.
Please keep an eye out, there are not many of them in Australia and it will come up for sale.

Great new, but we need more info:
How did you find it, how damaged, where is the body hidden...

The bike was dumped close to my house.
Upright but covered in WD40 and with the battery, tools and everything from the top box stolen.
Obvious damage was ignition barrel butchered with a screwdriver and some wiring pulled apart.
I thought all was good for repair but have been advised that it will most likely be a write off as the ignition barrel is held on by a tab attached to the frame, and that tab was broken.
If it is classified as a repairable write off I could buy it from the insurer and try to reregister - but they make it very, very hard where I live. Minimum of bike back to totally stock (change over or refit exhausts, air box, SAS, exhaust heat shields, top box mount, luggage mounts), a frame alignment test, engineers sign off and road worthy certificate.
I love the bike and am so sad at the thought of not having it but I think it is more practical to take the insurance payout and buy a Duke 890R.
