Thanks, I'll check Rocky for my next order. Been through well over 10 sets of PR2's between a FJR, FZ6, FZ1 and the Katoom. Never had any problems with in the rain including a few frog stranglers and light snows

So, how are the PR4s in cross winds? Any improvement over other tires? IMHO, the SM-T is a holy terror in high winds.... Also, any other recommendations for tires that are upset less by crosswinds?

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore
I've had my PR4s installed but I haven't really got a chance to really try them out.
I did ride a few blocks to work and one obvious difference is in low speed turns. We have a pretty tight roundabout and before the bike wanted to fall in and the front felt like it wanted to overturn (not sure the explanation makes sense)
No such weird behavior with the PR4. Very predictable in the turn.
I'm not sure if the previous behavior was due to the worn rear tire, or if the Conti front had more of a V profile than the PR4.

A squared-off rear will make the bike hard to lean until suddenly it wants to flop over on its side.mjskier wrote:I've had my PR4s installed but I haven't really got a chance to really try them out.

Comparing any worn tyre with any other new tyre is a waste of time really. A new PR3 feels completely different to a worn PR3, for example.

the 3's SUCKED! the 2's are where it's at, no experience with the 4's yet as I tried Angel GT's this time.
And where might a fellow like me find such a glorious spatula?

Not quite a PR but I did get 18,000 miles from this Michelin on my Hondapotamas.

The easy method to change a rear tire.

lol, I wouldn't dream of doing that to my Rocket....going dark side or leaning it on it's side to change a tyre...
What pressure do you run that rear at? Just interested as the rocket owners who darkside seem to have a varied view on it...

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore
Just got my PR4s on yesterday, giving it its first real ride (besides up my street)... so far initial impression is very good. The wind is awful today and they seem a bit more stable that the Contis or the Conti Motions I had on previously. Cornering "attitude" is great. More later as I put some miles on, but seems like a definite "recommended" rating so far.

You should go dark on your rocket, no big deal and it's fun to hear everyone say you will crash and burn using a ct on a bike.
I run 28-30, some of the Wing darksiders will run up to 36 for pushing hard in the twisty bits but higher pressure wears out the center of tire faster. I've never had any trouble at my 30psi 2up dragging pegs at 80mph.
The Wing has built in tip over guards so it is really easy to lay on the side.

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore
Hi Guys, I have had my 2009 SMT for 2 years now and have had Bridgestone BT020's, Bridgestone BT023's and Avon Ultra 2's on the bike.
To be honest, I was not impressed by either of the Bridgestones. The 020 felt average in use and the 023 I felt was unsuited for the bike. The 023 was very stiff in the carcass and never felt that it was running hot enough to make the tyre work properly. The rear was generally ok, but the front felt slow to turn, had a hard ride and hated damp roads. It worked ok in heavy rain but slid very easily if the road surface was damp. On the plus side, the wear rate was reasonable, I changed it at 4800 miles and could have got another 1000 miles extra.
I changed them for the Avons and was instantly happier with the tyres. They warmed up extremely quickly, turned much faster, had a much more supple ride and were planted in the rain. If you are into trackdays, I would say that there are probably better tyres available. That said, for the real world riding that I do in the cold, wet and with poor road surfaces I am very happy with them. I came down the motorway 3 weeks ago with the bike loaded with camping gear (25kg) in the wet at 75mph and the tyres were rock solid and stable.
They currently have nearly 5000 miles on them and the front has 2mm left and the rear has probably got 1000 miles left. I will be changing them next month as I do not run my tyres to the limit for wear.
I am more than happy to recommend the Ultra 2's and they suit the bike characteristics on the road.
Hope this helps.

How were the Angel GTs? I got them on my 690 SMR and LOVE them.Hellboi wrote:the 3's SUCKED! the 2's are where it's at, no experience with the 4's yet as I tried Angel GT's this time.

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore
I've got bit 023 which were fitted to the bike for its mot when I bought the bike and I ride it hard on the rough Scottish country roads 32 fr 33r no chicken strips and no scares unless I give it too much when it's wet the back wants to spin up. Flat out it wobbles a bit if I'm to heavy with the inputs.
I think any decent sports touring tyre will be good and if I can get a deal on any of the big brands I'll be having them and will still be riding hard when I feel the need.
Sometimes a tweek in pressure or suspension here and there is all you need.

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore
if you ride in the wet or hoon it up off road any the Conti Trail Attack > PR4s. They don't last as long but if you use the "SM" part as much as the "T" part they are the best.
you know....IMHO.
