My New 19' SD R

Post by andyandtherman » Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:45 pm

Hi Guys,

I was on this board a couple of years ago when at the time I had a deposit on the 17' SD R, which never came to fruition bc of the hold on N. American imports, and I went with a 17' Aprilia RSV4 RF instead. I still have and love the RF, but today, I scratched that nagging itch and grabbed a 19' SD R! I am super excited to play with this thing. It's nimble and has tons of torque. This will be fun...

Thanks guys! First order of business was getting stands. I'm considering the ergo seats as well. After that, rear fender kit... I'm on the fence about a pipe simply because of the noise factor. My RSV4 RF has an Austin Racing pipe ECU, blah blah, and it's quite loud. Glorious sounding, especially on track, but loud. There's something to not letting them know you're coming though... We'll see... I kinda doubt I can stay that mature for too long :D

I am with you as far as keeping the bike quiet. A lot of my riding is in urban areas, and am done with neighbor wakers. In the next week or so I am going to be scheduling dyno time. I will be using a Rottweiler intake, and a decat pipe with the stock can. I will get some db numbers as well as the power gains.

Have you bought stands yet? I am thinking about one of these. https://www.bursigusa.com/

Andy
I like the KTM stands. I got mine from amocmx online. They are good to deal with and have some good prices imho. The Power Parts seats are good addition. Also the Yosh tail tidy along with the led tail light with the built in turn signals and programmable light to strobe when brake on is awesome. Remus makes nice exhaust and sound is great but not crazy like the AustinRacing stuff. Also anything from EVOTECH is top grade. I have the lower engine and radiator guards as well as the frame sliders. They fit as if KTM made them. Have fun tricking your bike out.

Great information, and a very good looking bike you have. Thanks! I have a rear KTM stand en route and a Baxley sport chock as well. I like them a lot as they're beyond sturdy. I'm definitely going to look into those mods, thanks again!

I was looking for the Yosh kit you mentioned but am coming up empty. Do you happen to have a link for it?
I did find this, however. It looks nice, but I'd like to see the Yosh too, if possible, as they make great stuff.

This should fit I would guess unless the 2019 has something changed back there which I doubt.

Thanks. I goofed I guess. I was looking for the Yosh tidy tail with the led rear light, etc. I re read it and it's obviously a separate item. Gotcha ;)

Does the fender eliminator require the rear light as well or can it work with the OEM taillight?

The Yosh tail tidy works with stock or the aftermarket led tailight. The plastic tabs broke on my stock taillight which has been an issue on early models. I decided to go with a custom rear brake light that is much better and has been redesigned to be stronger for the two mounting tabs plus can be programmed and even has built in turn signals. It was also cheaper than a new oem that would have probably broke again.

Thanks. Will see if I can get it sent to South Africa

Is this the rear led light you are talking about?

Also, do you have a full system on the bike or a decat and back?

Andy,

that is the one. very bright and easy to setup. I have mine using the strobe function when the brakes are applied. Hopefully a cager will not run over me when sitting at a stoplight.

Nice bike man, congrats.

If you want a tidy tail look no further than new rage cycles.

Personally, I couldn't stand the stock turn signals. I bought their tidy tail and front turn signals.

The mods so far.... New Rage front and rear signals including fender eliminator. RC8 tank protectors, Hurricane exhaust, Akra map, disabled tire pressure warning on the dash as I like to run 32 f and 30 r when getting silly...and installed factory heated grips. Here's a shot... please forgive the dirty front fender... there was a stream in the way en route to lunch that day ;)
