990 Power Commander 5 & Tune ECU custom maps

Post by kevxtx » Wed May 02, 2012 5:45 am

Post all your custom made PCV Dyno maps here, or PM me & I will add them for you.

Unfortunately the sign of the times. The KTM 990 SMT forum or myself can not be held responsible for any modification done to your own motorcycle, any modification you under take is your own responsibility, we are not liable for any claim from the mods or fuel maps listed on this forum. The use of these PCV & Tune ECU HEX maps are at your own risk, it is always advised to get a professional tuner to tune your bike I always recommend a custom map to built for your own bike.

NOTE: All Kevxtx maps are built on 95RON Australian fuels, when using my maps in the UK, Europe & the USA you will need to increase the fuel maps by +1 to+2%, in the USA using ethonal fuel you will need to increase the fuelling by +2 to +4%. How to add that extra fuel if needed viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3770&hilit=increas ... &start=490 page 50.

Thanks alot.. One "stupid" question maybe?

If we want to use tuneecu is it possible to load the 2011 akramap. import the pc table from the link above (.pvm) file and press "commit trims" in tuneecu?

Just wondering..

Best Regards

You sure can, then lower the F/L swtich points down to 2% from 2000 to 10000rpm this will force the bikes ECU to run on the F maps from 2% upwards over 2000rpm, the F maps are adjusted by the imported PCV maps. this is the best solution at the moment when importing a PCV map.

What mods are on your bike now? As I have just uploaded a Tune ECU custom dyno built map which has been donated by Reece thanks for the map Reece, please read first post for download link they have been updated.

Great work as usual Kev! Just one thing, the TuneECU Custom maps link doesn't seem to be working. I'm looking forward to try Reece's map.

Cheers mate

Awesome! Im going to test run Reece's map soon. The Difference in mods on my bike is that I got shafts + flies out and RC8 Stacks fitted. Other differences might be the fuel octane (im running 98 octane) and a fair bit colder climate in Sweden!! :?

Will be back with results when I have taken a test ride! :)

Im back after a short test-drive of the Reece map! So I downloaded the map with TuneECU, noticed there were a bit higher rev-limiter (9750) Had plans raising it myself but it was already done :)

Did a 15 min TPS reset while getting my gear on, then turned off the bike and on again. First thing I noticed when gearing through the first gears in low speed was that the throttle was SUPER smooth! Have in mind that I didnt let the bike cool off so the engine was at working temperature (or maby a bit higher since the fan had been running for a while).

The fuelling might even be better than standard fuelling on a stock bike, have to give it to KTM that they have really improved this over the years. Had a 2008 990SM before and the fuelling at low speeds was horrible also a lot of surging, but now when I picked up my 2011 SMR and test drove it totally standard it actually was great on both low and pulled good through the revs.

Anyway, back to testdriving Reece's map. The first full throttle runs went great cause I kept the revs up, but once I tried a roll on from around 4k I noticed MAJOR stalling from around 4500-6500 rpms. Pulling really good all the way to the rev limiter above that, but I cant say that it pulled better than the Akra-map does.

The weather was not that great today either, the dashboard said 12 degrees celsius (guessing the mappning was made at another 20+ degrees or so... lol im jealous of your weather!) And also as I said in my last post im running 98 ron (octane) fuel.

What have I learned from this then.. I NEED to get my bike properly fuelled! :) Love the smooth throttle at low rpms but not so much the stalling at mid range.. Im going to call the nearest dyno-centers and hope that there are someone who wants to map my bike using TuneECU! Will ofcourse share the map here if I get one done! :D

I also have been testing Reeces map...

My impressions is just as described above. Very smooth on low rpms (best yet) and some stallin around 5000rpms. (I made a couple av small enhancements to it. Nothing big, just changed the F-L switchpoints some)

My bike is
09 - SMT
Akras
Stock exhaust (snorkel removed) (wating for CPR rotweiler... (ITG) )
SAS disabled in ECU
Butterflies removed (shafts still in)... (shafts will be removed as soon as the new airbox arrives)

A mix between this map (at low rpm's) and Kevins modified above approx 5500rpm would be ideal.

I will make one (maybe tonight or tomorrow)

Live in Norway. Cold and 98 octane fuel.

Thanks for the feedback, just a reminder not all custom maps will suit all markets, as every country or region run different blends of fuels which affects the A/F ratio.

I adjusted Reese's rev limiter to 9750RPM for him. A custom made fuel map is the way to go, it is worth every expence in my eyes to have your bike running at it's peak power as well get the best fuel consumption.

Thought of this today at work, using Reeces map as a base map in TuneECU and importing either Akra-map (pcv) or maby Simons PCV-map which is quite similar to my mods and also similar climate wise!

Should I keep the F-L switch as they are starting at 12% at 1k rpm up to 35% at 10k rpm or do you have any suggestions about this Kev?

Reeces map was so smooth at low rpms so I would want to use it there.

I have made one combining 2 maps. Will try today and let you know Jensen.

If you want to try that, import Reece's map up to my F/L switch points, then set the switch point to zero from 2000rpm.

Much much better. However a bit rich (I guess :) ) with big throttle openings at low rpms... Approx 3000-7000 rpms and throttle opening approx 70% and more.

Ha Ha! I just stumbled across this post then, and realised that a couple of you were trying out my map!!!! That's so awesome!!!! Thanks Kev for sharing it, but one thing seemed to make me wonder. That was the stalling through the middle of the rev range. It certainly doesn't do that on mine, and i think that it just goes to show how relevant getting a custom map done for each individual bike actually is. Obviously, my map would be a very good place to start, and most of the hard work would be done for you guys. It's blows me away that a map that has been written over in semi-tropical Brisbane, Queensland, is now seeing action on the roads of Scandinavia!!! I FREAKING LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Jensen, I've been talking to you on youtube (I'm vrednie on there too  ) about your video's!!!!!! Nice to see you on here mate ;)
Keep the replies to how the skeleton of of my map is progressing. I'm very keen to see how it grow's to suit your bikes, and riding contitions 8-)
It's probably also relevant to state the modification's that i have on my bike, as that will no doubt affect how it goes on your's:

Mods:

Akrapovic Evolution Slip ons
Motohooligan Airbox
SAS Blanking plates
RC8 Velocity Stacks (Thanks Kev!)
Secondary Butterflies Removed (but motohooligan secondary butterflies present during mapping)
O2 sensors switched off via mapping, and physically removed.

Fuel: Tuned using BP Ultimate RON 98.

If anyone wants to see the results (Before, after, and atmospheric conditions), i've scanned the Dyno graph into the "Photo's and video's) section.

Keep the feedback coming guys!

Reece :D

Yes Internet makes the world smaller

I think when my new airfilter arrives the map will almost be spot on...

Will look for a dyno setup when I get the chance...

EDIT: And aha - the rc8 stacks...... (I have mine in order)

Aha! Which maps did you combine? and what percentages did you set the F-L switch at different rpm's ? Correct me if im wrong but from my understanding the % in the F-L switch equals the throttle opening's percentage (at diffent rpms) when the ECU should "activate" or read from PCV imported map?

All I did today when trying out a new mapping was opening Reece's map, imported Simon's PCV table, checked F-L switch values that were set to 6 (1000rpm) 6 (1300) 6 (1450) and the rest was set to 0 all the way to 10k rpm. Pressed 'Commit Trims' Then downloaded the map to the ECU, did 15 min reset and had a test run.

Im not supposed to save the map after ive pressed Commit Trims?

Heya mate! :) You should have a big thanks for sharing your mapping with us! Idd your map works really well with my bike on low revs and throttle openings. Tried it today again with Simon's PCV table imported... I dunno really if I made it right but the bike did run strange again with a lot of stalling from 4k up to 7k, even with very minor throttle openings.

For now im back to Akra-map 2011 snappy throttle deluxe! lol.. Im off to a Trackday this coming weekend, well sorta trackday its more of an improving your driving skills school with individual coaching! Really looking forward to it. Anyways.. back to topic! :) Need to have my bike running "properly" for this event so the Akra-map have to due for the moment.

Edit: Kev. Do you have any experience with Bazzaz FI unit? Just thought it as an option to PCV if I have to buy some sort of ECU unit. If you know, does Bazzaz use Tunelink when mapping it at a dyno center?

Guys you can't import Simons custom PCV map over Reece's custom map it will not work the tune will be totally out. If you import any of the PCV maps you need to start with the 2011 Akra base map.

Yes . Thats right.

I combined Kevins custom map (from tuneecu ' s site - and there is a link in here somwhere also) and reeces custom map.. (also tuneecu map)

A bit of copying and pasting did the trick.
I will not tweak any more until my further modifications is done. Will travel some days now and will be back om Tuesday. Hopefully something interesting is in my mailbox by then... :)

Works very good.
