Classifieds Section

Post by alien » Thu Oct 29, 2015 12:33 pm

Does anyone know why I can no longer view the classified section.
When I try to view I get :- 'You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum'

There is now a supporters program active on the site, due to the ongoing costs and rising member counts there was a lack of 1% donations from the classifieds that some people were using to offload a lot of stuff.
10 gbp or 15 usd gets you access to classifieds as a starter as the program has only just been introduced, as you can see there are quite a few who have donated already.

Thanks JJay51, I've also appended the restricted sections with (Supporters Only) to clarify.

Agree with JJ, when you have a bike forum as friendly, helpful and knowledgeable as this, less than the cost of a tank of fuel for a subscription to be able to sell unlimited stuff, and get vast amounts of information is the bargain of the century.

I'm a member of other bike sites who operate a similar system, and I'm happy to pay a similar amount to those as well. These forums cannot run on fresh air, the same as your bike won't. Who do you think pays for the web hosting costs for this site? It's advert free, unlike many others, and that makes it much better in my opinion.

There's nothing back door about it, Admin put an announcement at the top of the forum board stating that a membership system was coming, and stated why, after trying voluntary donations, so it was hardly a surprise when it happened. If you sell stuff on ebay, you have to pay, why should it be any different on here?

It'll be your loss if you do go. :ugeek:

I can understand not being able to post items in classified without being a member but surely you want the widest audience for the seller, so shouldn't it be viewable but not post ible without membership?

I agreed 100% with that approach as middle ground. I understand keeping forum up take a lot of time (I don't agreed with a lot of money, since hosting forum is pretty unexpressive, in range of $150-$250 a year). Having few forum moderators would help with maintaining the forum and split the time so one person don't have to do all the work.

I have no problem donating 1% of the anything I sell, this is pretty popular approach that has been working for may forums out there. Eventually, you will start getting sponsors that will help or even cover all the forum expenses.

Better to revive this thread than start a new one...

I appreciate that I can read the ads, but it's a bit pointless when I still don't have permissions to see the attached images.
I don't mind making a donation to respond to an ad if an item is attractive to me, but I won't know that if I can't see it...
