Nice work! Not sure I will go with a PCV and AT300 on this bike as it already makes so much power, but who knows. I will keep following your efforts closely! Learning from you about that setup really helped get the fueling much better on my 990 SMR.

A few of us have significant play in the rear wheel bearings, yet to be sorted.
Is OK for those that live near a dealer, not so much when several hundred kms away, combined with the long wait for parts in Oz.
Love that motor, but the Katooms can sometimes test your patience.

I am not to worried about the extra power this time around I want smoothness & know I can get the motor smoother as I have already tasted the smoother ride, when I had my O2 controllers fitted the motor was so much smoother & had more pull from 2000rpm, a custom map will give the best results all round, we already know the 1290 is to rich everywhere running on our Ozzy fuels.

After an 1hrs Auto Tunning this morning I can't believe how much smoother this motor is, it pulls no problem in 5th gear from 2000rpm, to say I am pleased is an under statement, can't wait for a full custom Tune Link Dyno tune. :D

I'm in the process of getting the stainless 18mm bungs welded into the standard exhaust.
The standard headers are stainless steel, yes?

Oh boy, here we go. I'd promised myself to let it go, but I got the fever when you transformed my SMT and I may be powerless to resist! Parts are waiting for the bike's delivery, promised now for sometime in July!

Kev's 1290 modification list

Post by LenFerguson » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:42 am

I was wondering why they said that the 1190 PCV wouldn't work on the 1290. Glad you worked it out Kev it will be interesting what can be done with the airbox now...

Kev, am I right in assuming DynoJet will produce a 1290 plug'n'play version later in the year?
I need to sort out this rear hub first anyhow, and knowing KTM it will probably take months.
I'm already having warranty issues, and would prefer something a bit easier to revert to stock if the need arises.

Not sure with plug & play, I would say the 1290 PCV might be the same install as the 1190, I guess we will have to wait & see what they bring out in 6 months time.

Nice work Kev, I'm well impressed !

I've found that after my 1000k service (!) the fuelling is a bit rougher (-I'm guessing KTM altered the fuel map at the first service...) and I'm looking fwd to fitting a PCV..
-I'm not bothered about the autotune as we have a good dynojet operator over here-( I know autotune will give the best results but I don't fancy welding my downpipes..)

Q- what type of electrical connectors are you using...? I've always used crappy crimpers but you look to be using a screw type of connector if I'm correct..?
