190x50 rear tyre fit?

Post by Marcelo » Tue May 24, 2011 12:20 am

Hi,

I have a big doubt. Is the 190x50 fits in rear wheel instead of 180x55?

Someone here have had install it?

thanks

I think it'll go on the rim - but I wouldn't. If the rim is a bit tight you'll bow the tire and make the handling wobbly at best - dangerous at worst. Even if it's wide enough you'll slow the steering right down and what would be the point? Our bikes are nimble - that's the raison d'etre for them.

I agree with what phanson says -
It will in all probability adversely affect the handling - by slowing it down

I just asking because I did it changing im my 2008 CB1300 the 180x55 per 190x50 and results, looking and grip was very good, but in SMT I agree is no space is rear arm, or has?

No space for 190. It will be very close to the chain !! To risky!! :?

The motor makes less than 120bhp. You really don't need the extra straight-line grip a 190 would provide.

Just got rid of my Contis and fitted my SMT with the Pilot Road 3`s, with the 190x50 configuration.

I would not consider it dangeous, the bike feels just right. It feels a bit bulkier, but it has to do more with the extra thread the Michelin`s have. It feels much safer in the turns and well, the wet pavement does not feel wet with these tires.

It looks cooler as well.

Cheers.

Following this up, I've just stuck the old part-worn 190/50 PR3 from my gixer on the back of the SMT. It's far from pristine, and the roads are cold and greasy, so I wasn't able to give it a full workout, but it seems to fit the rim OK, doesn't rub against the swingarm or mini-hugger, and the bike still goes round corners.

Crucially, I did 150 miles or so without dying in a massive fireball or flying through a hedge, so that's two thumbs up for safety.

If a 190 fits in there I wonder if a 6x17 wheel from rc8 would fit? Not ideal but I already have a pair of uber light OZ Piegas from my RC8R so it would be easier than selling them. (I don't have SMT yet)
White RC8R...wanting an SMT

Kev, what do you think about he 190 fit?
ever run it that way?

I ask because the roadsmart is on sale for like $99, but no 180 in stock...only 190s, and
I like a fat rear tire.
