Re: Rear Sprocket Movement - Whats normal?
Sorry I haven't been checking this forum often. There should be no play in the rear sprocket. I replaced my cush drive assembly at 70,000km, which was a little overdue. New chain and rear sprocket at 60k was destroyed within that 10k due to cush drive wear. My bike is fairly stock, so anything pokin...

Re: What quality conrol?
I can see how the filter could be crushed - it needs to be inserted properly before the cover is screwed on tight...... but this is basic mechanical skill/ duty of care stuff and is not difficult! So it's negligence! I understood that was due to engine being revved too hard when cold, while the oil...

Re: 18,000 mile service
I've bought all my plugs via the US as they're a hell of a lot cheaper over there. Already have the next set which will go in at the 120,000km service.

Re: Leaky radiator
Just had mine repaired a second time as it was leaking from the same area. This time the entire tube has been blocked off so here's hoping. I did notice that one of the bottom mount grommets was missing and the other was buggered, so all grommets top/bottom have been replaced. Now just got to get ou...

Mine doesn't like the sun.
Tacho needle locks up in bright sun and have to cast a shadow on it with my hand to rectify it. Don't ya just love KTM's

Re: General failure on cold starting
it was due to the battery. Try another battery, or maybe the bike don’t like your brand off lithium. Battery would've been my first pick. I had nothing but dramas with LiFePO4 batteries in my Speed Triple. Went back to lead-acid and issues disappeared. The lithium certainly don't like the cold and ...

Cheers for posting that up. I gather the repair is epoxy?
Mine is going to dealer Tuesday to initiate a claim. Not hopeful, but good to know repair is an option.

Mine has just started to leak very close to where yours is leaking from and right behind the frame of the rad guard.Alchemistioan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 03, 2018 12:02 amYes, no radiator guard. I didn't see any punctures on it.
Bit of a piss off, though mine has clocked over 80,000km.

Nothing special you need to know. Bolt comes out completely and does right back up again! No drama, no fanfare.

My 2015 looks just like yours and the part schematics look the same for both models with no cover I can see.
I've had no issue with switch in 75,000km.

Re: 2016 SDR stored off battery now throwing check engine light
I was told (by a service tech recently returning from KTM school) that the only way to clear an engine check light is to reflash the ECU. That's what had to be done on my bike. I had been to two different dealers and talked to three different techs and none knew of the previously mentioned hack tha...

Re: Anybody running 20w50 amsoil
Hi I am just about to do a an oil change on the 1290 and noticed that my local ktm dealer put 10w50 in after the first service then switched to 10w60 for the last three, anyone else in Oz using that weight? Just be wary. My dealer tried to tell me the oil specs had changed to 10W-60 from 10W-50, bu...

Re: Not sure what my options are here...
Sorry to hear of your troubles. My bike suffers from both those issues, but I'm well out of my warranty and have over 72,000km on the clock. I did get the first set of rotors replaced under warranty, but the issue came back. Fortunately it's not bad and no more than an annoyance at this point. What ...

Heads up with higher mileage.
After destroying a chain in 11,000km, I noticed my rear sprocket carrier loose. Bike is currently at 71,000km and sprocket carrier was flogged out and in need of replacement. Jar dampers replaced too. I certainly wouldn't consider myself a hard rider and my bike is near stock, so with mods, it may b...

Nasty, so best of luck with that extraction.
Secondly, why are you still using the old filters?

Re: What oil are you guys running? Summer vs winter?
That's only a recommendation for temps below 0°C. Above and 10W50 Power Synthetic is the recommended oil.
That said, I use Total 10W50 4T synthetic as it seems to work well and is very reasonably priced.

Re: Do you all tighten your rear wheel nut to 250nM? If so, HTF do you get it loosened?
He told me the '14 1290 takes a 50mm Nut, not a 60mm. I told him I think that's wrong, as I've read 60mm all over the place, and have in fact used this 60mm socket successfully once before..... Am I crazy?? The nut is M50 x 1.5 and requires a 60mm socket, so you're both right lol. I've actually got...

This has started happening to my bike since the 60,000km service and getting worse. Just yesterday the needle cycled when ignition switched on and stuck around 10,000rpm. On start-up it was reading over 11,000 and into no mans land when revved. :( Service tech is going to look into it. Even a repair...

56,000k in a couple years, nice. If you don't mind I would sharing how the bikes held up? you're right at the 2nd valve check how did they spec? Finally got the 60,000km service done this month. Clearances still all good, in fact overall condition good. Just replaced chain/sprockets again, so now o...
